Summer Tales

Altough is hasn't been very warm outside, ummer has been going by so fast.  For us it has been filled with lots of family adventures.

  • Soccer  The boys played soccer with Chinqually Boosters Soccer Club.  It is a learning league where the kids play 3v3 with no goalies.  This year I coached Chase's team and John was the assistant coach for Andrew's team.  Coaching is always alot of work especially when your team is all new to soccer.  Chase's team was the "BLUE SPIDERS" Chase was the most aggressive and scored most of the goals for his team.  He never wanted to sit out.  He tried really had to help his "girl friend", Willow have a good experience.  They often held hands while running down the field. Very cute!  Give it a year or two and Chase will be a really strong player.  Andrew played on the "Hawks Kick-off" team.  He only knew 1 player from last year but it was a great learning experience for him.  He wasn't the star of the team so he had to try harder.  It was good to have John as the assistant coach to help Andrew develop his listening skills.  He really liked coach Jon and the kids on his team.  He started to develop his skills as a defender and was still able to score some goals too!  Andrew likes to win but he really likes to just have fun with his friends.  He will miss playing with this group of kids next year.  Hopefully we will find another good team for him to be on.
  • Swimming Lessons  We signed the boys up for swimming lessons so they would be more confident around the swimming pool.  We opted for the Tanglewilde Pool which is an outdoor pool.  We were hoping that summer would come to Washington by July, unfortunately, it didn't.  The water was cold and we had to bring jackets and blankets to keep warm.  Both of the boys really enjoyed it!  Chase was in Minnow 1 and was by far the most confident one in his class.  He probably could have been in Minnow 2. He passed his class and was recommended for Minnow 2.  Andrew struggled with his confidence in the water and paying attention to his teacher but he felt that it was a good experience.  He even jumped off the diving board!  His favorite thing to do was bobs.  Although, he didn't pass this class he did learn how to completely immerse his head in watch and dive for objects (one of his favorite things to do in the pool!).
  • Sun River, OR  As soon as swimming lessons ended it was time to pack and head to Sun River.  John had to go for a conference and families were invited to attend.  We were a little worried about John having less vacation time needless to say it has worked out for the better.  His job requires a lot more travel but they really seem to try and take care of their people (at least at John's level and above). Sun River is a lot like they old time Family Camps from movies like Dirty Dancing.  We were put up in a cabin which was pretty cool.  The resort pool was walking (or biking) distance which was perfect.  We spent a week biking, swimming and trying to all get along.  Tuesday evening John had a getting to know you dinner (which we found out families were invited too, we had already fed the kids but they would never turn down hot dogs, soda & cookies). Wednesday John went to meetings in the morning and then had the afternoon free.  We took the kids bike riding and swimming. Juliana loved the baby pool she could have stayed there all day.  There were family activities available - paid by the company, but we decided out kids were too little, maybe next year!  Thursday was the long day for John so we signed the boys up for Dinosaur Day Camp. They got to go on a field trip to the Volcano lands, make fossils & volcanos back at camps and have tons of fun. Both boys have asked to go back in the future. Juliana and I spent the morning in Bend, OR at the outlet mall shopping and then went swimming before picking the boys up from daycamp. Thursday evening was an adult only dinner.  They even paid for babysitting for the kiddos.  The boys couldn't have had a better day. Juliana was in the infant room and was in baby heaven. She was bigger than most of the babies there so she "helped" take care of them.  Friday while John was in meetings I packed and got things ready for check out.  John came back during his break to load up the car.  The kids and I spent time driving around and playing at the park.  It is much more difficult to entertain the kids when you don't have a home base to be at.  We picked John up from his meeting and then headed home.  We would have loved to stay until Saturday but we had the last soccer game of the season to get back to and John and I both had coaching responsibilities.
